I am a type 1.5 diabetic, and and former triathlete (haven't raced since having my son a couple years ago). I'm finally able to go out on some longer bike rides (3++ hours). Even though I'm not currently using insulin, I would like to carry my glucometer with me on longer rides, and am trying to figure out the best way to do it. I could go with a bento box, but having ridden with one of those for years, am not too psyched about putting it on my bike. I'm concerned about the temperature in my back pocket. Bars seems to sometimes melt this time of year, so I would think that could be an issue for my meter. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask for ideas, but I would love either some suggestions, or for someone to point me to the correct forum to ask. Thanks!! - Andrea

I don't ride so I'm not sure about the logistics of carrying a meter on a bike, but I run and have had to carry one with me before in hot weather. There's something called a Frio pack that will keep your meter cool; they have different sizes and these things work really well. The site is: http://www.diabetesfrio.com so check it out. Also, there are these really small meters you can get now. The one I've tried is called SideKick and they have it at Walmart for $19. It's a total package thing with the meter and 50 test strips and the whole thing, including the meter, is the size of the test strip vial (the meter is actually the top of the vial)! I've gone through a couple of them already and they're accurate and sooo convenient. I think there's another one called True2Go, but I've never been able to find that one anywhere. The Sidekick thing is easy to carry with me anywhere - love it!
