My 16 year old daughter is a type 1 diabetic. She was just diagnosed in May. SHe resumed her soccer after about 1 month on insulin, as she started to feel so much better. She tries to make sure her number is approximatley 110 before she starts a 3 hour session. If her number is lowering than that before starting, she eats something with reduced or no inslulin to bring it up. Once practice starts she checks herself about every 30 minutes. Sometimes she goes down and sometimes she goes up. I have learned that adreniline can cause the liver to induce mose sugar into the blood to help with the heavy exercise. If she is going up, she drinks water. If she is going down, she drinks Gatoraid which has a lot of carbs. Aobut 1/2 a bottle brings her up about 30 to 40 points. It is trial and error but it seems to work for her.

I am an 11 year old girl and I play soccer. I have had diabetes since I was 4. I use a Cozmo pump and a Navigator. I have played for about 6 years but now I am having new trouble. Almost every time I go to training or a game, I end up with very low blood sugar. I usually have to sit out, which I hate. On Saturday, my mom found me collapsed on the grass. I also have celiac so that limits some snacks that I can have. Can you give me some ideas on how to keep my blood sugar up? What is the best range to be in during exercise? I am going to try to check my blood sugar and eat two hours before playing. What do you think my blood sugar should be before I start playing?

I have asked my dr these questions, but she doesn't play sports and didn't have many good ideas for me.

Thanks!
