LifeScan Athletic Achievement Award Winners
Lifetime Achievement Award – Bill Carlson. Bill set the standard for triathletes with diabetes in 1983 as the first person with type 1 diabetes to complete the Ironman Triathlon. Since then he has competed in Ironman World Championships, hundreds of endurance races and several hundred mile runs.
Athletic Achievement Award Winners
Jen Alexander, from Nova Scotia, for her amazing 13 and 19 hour open water swims and her 2006 attempt to be the first Canadian with diabetes to swim the English Channel. The swim was terminated due to unsafe conditions. Jen is training and determined to complete the swim in 2009.
Jackie Carter, recent graduate from the University of Notre Dame, is an outstanding athlete in a variety of sports including soccer and mountain climbing. But running is where she has made her mark. Jackie broke Notre Dame's 800 meter Division 1 track record last year.
Honorable Mention Award Winners
Tom Seabourne, an endurance cyclist from Texas, and Lisa Seaman, outstanding mountaineer, outdoor adventurer and professional photographer from Colorado.
Lew Harper Youth Athletic Achievement Award Winner
Mallory Zorman, age 13, a speed skater from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
